Routine Maintenance

Weekly Vacuuming

Vacuum your rug at least once a week using a low-suction setting without the beater bar. Always vacuum in the direction of the pile, never against it. This removes surface dust and prevents dirt from settling deep into the fibres.

Rotate Every 6 Months

Rotate your rug 180° every six months to ensure even wear and consistent colour fading, especially in rooms with strong natural light. This is one of the simplest and most effective care practices.

Use a Rug Pad

A quality non-slip rug pad protects both your floor and the rug's underside. It also reduces friction, extending the life of the foundation weave, and adds a layer of cushioning underfoot.

Stain Removal

Act Quickly

Blot (never rub) any spill immediately with a clean, dry white cloth. Work from the outer edge of the stain inward to avoid spreading it. Most spills can be handled successfully if treated within the first few minutes.

Gentle Cleaning Solution

Mix a small amount of mild, pH-neutral detergent with cool water. Apply sparingly to the stained area with a white cloth, blot, and repeat. Avoid bleach, hydrogen peroxide, and harsh chemical cleaners — they can damage natural dyes.

Professional Deep Cleaning

We recommend a professional deep clean every 12–18 months, depending on foot traffic. Ensure you choose a cleaner experienced with handmade rugs — machine-washing or steam cleaning can permanently damage hand-knotted fibres.

Between professional cleanings, you can freshen your rug by lightly misting it with cool water and allowing it to air-dry flat (never hang a wet rug, as the weight stretches the foundation).

Storage Tips

If storing your rug, roll it (never fold) with the pile facing inward around a sturdy acid-free tube. Wrap in breathable cotton or muslin — avoid plastic, which traps moisture and encourages mould.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Add cedar blocks or lavender sachets to deter moths, and check periodically for any signs of pests.

Sunlight & Fading

Natural dyes will mellow gracefully over time — this is part of the rug's living character. To slow uneven fading, avoid placing your rug in prolonged direct sunlight. UV-filtering window treatments can also help protect colours.

Material-Specific Care

Wool

Naturally stain-resistant and resilient. Vacuum regularly and spot-clean with cool water. Avoid hot water, which can shrink wool fibres.

Silk & Silk Blend

Exceptionally delicate and lustrous. Vacuum on the lowest setting only. Avoid any liquid cleaning at home — always consult a professional for silk rugs.

Cotton

Durable and easy to maintain. Most small cotton rugs can be hand-washed with mild detergent. Lay flat to dry completely before use.

Jute & Natural Fibre

Avoid excessive moisture. Vacuum regularly and spot-clean only. These fibres are best suited for low-traffic, dry areas.
